about

Many people have lost their lives in the opioid crisis, families have lost contact with loved ones who are living with mental health and addiction issues, and as a witness, I feel at a loss on how to help. Writing this song is the start of my exploration of how to be part of the solution. I hope listeners will know they are not alone in their experience with this and consider it a call to action in whatever way they can.

They all seem lost living on the boulevard
When I head down that way, my body stands on guard
Drugs, danger, and distress, how’d it get this far?
Fear wins the battle in my heart

I keep passing by the lost ones
Feeling powerless to help someone with a loaded gun
No one of us can bear the damage done
How did we all become the lost ones?
Hottest day of the year, no shade in sight
I see a guy in bad shape, his frozen eyes meet mine
He spews anger and lashes out, it’s the enemy inside
I turn away, hoping he stays alive

I keep passing by the lost ones
Feeling powerless to help someone with a loaded gun
No one of us can bear the damage done
How did we all become the lost ones?

He’s got a family somewhere sharing the pain
I wonder, if she found him, what his mom would say
She’d say ‘He’s not a junkie, he’s my precious son, all I can do is pray’
‘Cause he runs away from any kind of grace

I keep passing by the lost ones
Feeling powerless to help someone with a loaded gun
No one of us can bear the damage done
How did we all become the lost ones?
